Effect of Free Surfaces on the Glass Transition Temperature of Thin Polymer Films.

چکیده
We report the first measurements of the glass transition temperature Tg for thin freely standing polystyrene (PS) films. We have used Brillouin light scattering to measure Tg for freely standing films of different thicknesses. We find that Tg decreases linearly with film thickness h for h # 700 Å, with a reduction of 70 K for a film with h 290 Å. These measurements characterize unambiguously the effects of the free surface on Tg of thin polymer films. Results are compared to similar results for supported PS films [Keddie et al., Europhys. Lett. 27, 59 (1994)], and we find that their measured values are influenced strongly by the substrate. [S0031-9007(96)01093-9]

Annealing temperature effect on nanostructure and phase transition of Copper Oxide thin films
This paper addresses the annealing temperature effect on nanostructure and phase transition of copper oxide thin films, deposited by PVD method on glass substrate (at 110 nm thickness) and post annealed at different temperatures (200-400°C) with a flow of 1 cm3s-1 Oxygen. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) was employed for crystallographic and phase analyses, while atomic force m...

متن کاملThe Effect of Substrate on Structural and Electrical Properties of Cu3N Thin Film by DC Reactive Magnetron Sputtering
The aim of this paper is to study the effect of substrate on the Cu3N thin films. At first Cu3N thin films are prepared using DC magnetron sputtering system. Then structural properties, surface roughness, and electrical resistance are studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), the atomic force microscope (AFM) and four-point probe techniques respectively. Finally, the results are investigated and c...
متن کاملStudying the Adhesion Force and Glass Transition of Thin Polystyrene Films by Atomic Force Microscopy
The relaxation behaviors of thin polymer films show a strong dependence on temperature and film thickness. Direct quantitative detection of the relaxation behaviors of thin polymer films at nanometer scale by traditional instruments is however challenging. In this study, we employed atomic force microscopy (AFM)-based force-distance curve to study the relaxation dynamics and the film thickness ...
